Description
Giuseppe Arcimboldo, a painter in Milan, circa 1573, did a four part series of works (the four seasons) for the Emperor Maximilian II as a gift ultimately for the Elector August of Saxony. He used vegetables, fruits, flowers, fish, and even military gear as objects to construct personified portraits. Each object was identifiable, and when all were used together they made a 'teste composte' - (composed heads) painting. It was new and never before done to my knowledge. Unfortunately they scare children, dogs, and people who live alone.
